Semester Overview

INTRO COMPUTERS FALL 2005 SEMESTER OVERVIEW

UNIT 1: Emphasis on word processing using Microsoft Word

  • Using the ruler, toolbar and formatting palette to create basic documents
  • Using the project gallery to create letters, résumés, business cards, and flyers
  • Creating outlines with the automatic outlining tool
  • Creating a log form using the table tool
  • Proper formatting for research papers including citations that conform to MLA standards
  • Preparing for the senior project

UNIT 2: Creating a presentation in PowerPoint or Keynote

  • Working with text
  • Illustrating your presentation
  • Incorporating animation
  • Navigation with hyperlinks
  • Projects: Shakespeare sonnet, Travel brochure slideshow, independent research slideshow

UNIT 3: Microsoft Excel

  • Using spreadsheets calculations and charting to interpret data
  • Projects: Home Budget, Multiplication Tables, Roll Book, G8 Countries, Weights and Measures conversions, Geometry formulas, Taxes, Independent Research


Unit 4: Appleworks Database

  • Researching and creating databases
  • Organizing database records and fields
  • Projects: Address Book, Class Schedule, Geography Database, Presidents

Units 5 and 6 are a preview of the Digital Graphics curriculum
UNIT 5: Illustration and design using Adobe Illustrator

  • Using the drawing tools to create geometrical shapes following design esthetics
  • Projects to be arranged

UNIT 6: Manipulating photographic images using Adobe Photoshop

  • Using the selection tools, filters, and adjustment tools to alter photographic images
  • Projects to be arranged

UNIT 7: Computer animation using Macromedia Flash

  • Using the timeline, frames and keyframes, drawing tools, animation using tweening
  • Projects: Flipbook animation using Muybridge photo sequences, simple cartoon style animation
